Area of Nepal: Revised Political Map of Nepal
Nepal, country of Asia, lying along the southern slopes of the Himalayan mountain ranges. It is a landlocked country located between India to the east, south, and west and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China to the north. Nepal measures about 880 kilometers (547 mi) along its Himalayan axis by 150 to 250 kilometers (93 to 155 mi) across. Nepal has an area of 147,516 square kilometers (56,956 sq mi).
Nepal government recently released its revised political map on May 20, 2020 claiming the land in the left part of the country which added 335 square kilometers of land in Nepal, taking the total area from 147,181 to 147,516.
Nepal released the political map after India announced that it had opened a road link via Lipulekh to Kailash Mansarovar in the Tibetan Autonomous Region on May 8.
But the decision of Nepal Government wasn’t only based on that, it was the result of countless diplomatic latter from more than a decade ago that went unconcerned by the Indian Government and on the top of that India released their political map on November 9, 2019, which included Nepali territory on it. Against this Nepalese Foreign Ministry released a press statement objecting the inclusion.
Despite Kathmandu having historical claims and proof in its favor, the Indian government has continuously ignored Nepal’s claims.
So, the news portals and outlets saying that Nepal has released a new map are at an error here because the Government of Nepal hasn’t released a new map, they have released a Revised Map of their Territory. Through this bold move, the government asks their neighbor to have a diplomatic talk that has been postponed through decades and solve this border issue.
